Geriatric Family Therapy

Individuals entering their later years experience many transitions and endure many losses, such as retirement; moving from parenthood to grandparenthood; lessened physical abilities, strength, and energy; the deaths of friends and peers; lowered social status; a tighter financial budget; and the loss of a spouse.

Family therapy aims to promote understanding and collaboration among family members in order to solve the problems of one or more individuals. Family therapy can address changes in family dynamics related to aging. Treatment can result in improve relationships, positive adjustments to changes in living arrangements, rethinking family roles, and gaining acceptance.
